Happy Turkey Day

'twas the middle of November,
Thanksgiving was nigh;
four and twenty turkeys
curiously trotting by.

not a shot was fired,
no cause for alarm,
wild turkeys in my back yard,
shall not suffer harm.

Update since Brighty's passing

Gimley gets plenty of respect from his kids, five girls and four boys. At first he was a pretty strict papa, but he has softened and actually treats them better than they treat themselves. I fashioned a crude double stall nest box out of an antique drawer inside their coop. In about another month or so, the pullets should be old enough to begin to lay.
